Week of International News
Aviation news items continue to make headlines around the world this week
One notable interest article on aviation is the August 1st, feature cover story
in the widely read USA Today newspaper about
Aviation Air Shows
Included in the article was a report that the past nine months in the USA have not been
without drama and "unusually deadly for military aerobatic pilots"
The reason for the higher than normal accident rate was not fully researched but suffice
to say that the civilian air show pilots did not suffer from the same "statistic"
There are about 425 air shows annually in the USA which
attract crowds in excess of 18 million people!

It's a little different here in OZ
The lack of air show activity is in stark contrast to our "overseas cousin" who report that
air shows in their country are "another American success story"
In the USA, air shows rank a close second in competition with their Major League Baseball
in attendance and interest!
News Desk Observation
Over the past 30 years there has been a major decline in Air Show activity (along with just
about all other 'private' aviation activity) here in OZ. Amazingly enough there is now a greater selection of
'historic' and 'warbird' types available for display than what had been in the past but sadly there is just not
enough shows to be able to fully appreciate these magnificent aircraft operating in the environment for which
they were originally designed
On current trends more people in the 'states' will attend air shows next year then there
are here in the OZ population!
