Aviation Safety Chief Defends Himself

CASA chief Mick Toller defended allegations during the past week that he flew a plane in June last year without the proper qualifications saying he didn't know it was wrong
 
Mr Toller issued a statement saying he'd been invited and accepted to take the controls of a single turbine engined Cessna Caravan in the Torres Strait because he felt flying the aircraft would give him hands-on knowledge of the difficult operational conditions in the region¹

"In the normal situation, a pilot who flies an aircraft that they're not endorsed for could face being counselled by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and having that breach entered on their record"¹

In the real world it would pay to take along a legal representative if you happen to be involved in any "counselling session" with CASA as it is most likely that some kind of fine will be imposed
 
There is also a strong possibility that your licence will be suspended for an indefinite period or you may be required to undergo an expensive refresher type flight test at one of the local flying schools before been allowed back up in the sky! ²

The Federal Transport Minister John Anderson says he has confidence in the chief of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority Mick Toller despite advice that Mr Toller may have committed a second breach of regulations
 
It is the second reported breach by Mr Toller this month¹
