A 51-year-old male pilot was taking part in a hang-gliding competition near Narrabri in NSW when he landed in a tree 30m above the ground

The pilot had no way of getting down so he tied himself to a branch and waited for the rescue helicopter who was unable to winch him out because of concerns it would dislodge the wrecked hang-glider

Gympie Ultra-Light Boss Guilty

Monday August 20

The Scales of Justice
After a four-week trial the District Court jury found a former Gympie ultra-light aero club president guilty of misappropriating an ultra-light aircraft and illegally claiming $2,000 of Queensland government funding

David Quinn, former president of the Gympie Airsports Association which had bought an ultra-light, was charged with two counts of misappropriation and one of false pretences between 1989 and 1995

The court heard Quinn had also illegally taken $2,000 in funding from the Queensland Department of Tourism Sport and Racing after pretending to conduct a junior flight training clinic
