Storm Drama at Brisbane

Late Friday March 9, several Heavies making for Brisbane airport were forced to abandon their approach and go land elsewhere

A severe electrical storm passing over Brisbane cut some of the lights on the active 01/19 ILS runway leaving most of the heavy captains no alternative but to land at Coolangatta where they created massive congestion problems

Quote from a very busy controller¹ after a captain asks what other aerodromes are available: ¹ on VHF 125.6mhz

   ...they're trying to pull aerodromes out of their backsides at the moment...
