PA-28 Forced Landing at Rocklea

 July 14 
A Piper PA-28/235 Cherokee approaching Archerfield around mid-day lost engine power forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing on a road of an industrial estate

"The aircraft clipped some trees and came down in a street, ..hit a fence, spun around and slid backwards into a chain wire fence"

The pilot - the only person on board - was able to walk away unharmed

Drilling Rig Helicopter Down

 July 17 
British drilling rig workers are missing after the helicopter carrying them to work crashed in the North Sea

"..five bodies have been found in the sea by a rig support vessel ..but 6 people remain missing ..there were 9 passengers and two crew for the Santa Fe Monarch drilling rig"

The Shell Expro charted Bristow Sikorsky S76 helicopter went down 25 miles north-east of Great Yarmouth after departing Norwich for the rig

Japan's Supersonic Test Failure

 July 14 
The testing of a supersonic model of a passenger aircraft ended in failure when the rocket used to launch the model departed the launch pad leaving the model sitting in the tower

"..test launch of what Japanese scientists hope will be the next generation of supersonic jets has failed spectacularly in SA"

This test failure joins the QLD Uni's HyShot scramjet experiment failure

Salvo's Hand-Start Catastrophe

July  16 
In Darwin a Salvation Army pilot with his family loaded on board a Cessna C182 tried to prop start the engine because of flat battery

The engine suddenly started and the unrestrained aircraft took off across the tarmac hitting four other stationery aircraft in its path

One parked aircraft was extensively damaged but the family (1 + 3) on board the C182 had only minor injuries

Fly-Hire Tourist Prang

 July 16 
The Redcliffe based fly-hire business targeting overseas tourists wanting to fly themselves around the country has had a minor hic-up

"..the American pilots hit a post (near Gladstone) after the aircraft they were flying ran out of fuel"

The only injury was to the pilot's pride and the Cessna's C172 port wing which was extensively damaged

OZ Cop in Jakarta Jabiru J400

 July 21 
A QLD designed 4 seat J400 Jabiru departing from the Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport in Jakarta Indonesia experienced engine problems and forced landed on a busy highway with the loss of a life

The homebuilt aircraft with an OZ Federal Police officer on board hit several trees before impacting the ground; the Indonesian pilot received fatal injuries in the accident "..he did the best he could ...he had to land somewhere because the engine was dead"
