Adventure Flights in T-28 Popular

The Archerfield based ex-warbird trainer the North American's T-28 Trojan - owned and operated by Kim Rolph-Smith - is proving popular for adventure type joy-flights

Kim's Trojan is as "good as, if not better than, new" after under going an extensive (and expensive) rebuilding and refurbishment program at AF over a period of more than 10 years

Private Military Jet on UK's M11

 June 3 
A privately owned 2 seat L-39 ex-military jet trainer ran off the end of the runway at Duxford Airfield in the UK and ended up across both the north and south lanes of the M11

Click to enlarge No motor vehicles were involved in the mishap but the Albatross's co-owner died whilst trying to eject

Click to enlarge The M11 section, about 80km north of London, was closed for a time until the aircraft wreckage was removed

SA Sports Star Dies in Air Crash

 June 2 
Disgraced South African and former cricket captain Hansie Cronje has died in a cargo plane crash near the town of George in South Africa

Cronje missed a scheduled flight and hitched a lift with pilot friends on a Hawker Siddely 748 cargo aircraft at Johannesburg bound for George

The aircraft was unable to land off the first approach due to poor weather conditions
   "....it appears the pilot then tried to go around again and in the process the plane crashed into the Outeniqua mountains"

Chopper Accident in NT Claims 4

 June 6 
A Bell 206 Jet-Ranger Click to enlarge with 5 POB has crashed claiming 4 lives, including the pilot, while mapping Aboriginal sacred sites in East Arnhem land in the Northern Territory

Only one passenger survived the accident which occurred at the base of the Mitchell Range in the Arnhem Land Aboriginal community of Doinytji near Gapuwiuyak

   "...the weather conditions in the area have been good and no distress signals or beacons were activated prior to the crash"
