Media's Dangerous Skies of QLD

 October 6 
A newspaper report has concluded that the skies over QLD are a dangerous place to fly in OZ after consulting with our aviation experts

Doug Edwards, of the Aviation Safety Foundation, mentions CASA's regulations as, quote:- "The system is malfunctioning to the extent that if it was a corporation, you'd say it was trading insolvent and you'd bring in the administrators to clean up the mess"

Air Show Accident Claims 15

 October 2 
Two IL-38 Russian-built aircraft collided during an airshow in India killing 6 crew on each aircraft and 3 persons on the ground

The Indian air force, 4th largest in the world, reported the IL-38's were flying as part of an air show to mark the 25th anniversary of the Indian Navy's 315 Air Squadron

"One of the planes crashed on a road and the other on the building where the (three) construction crew was working"

Aircraft Parachute Saves Pilot

 October 5 
The pilot of a Cirrus SR22 flying in the USA deployed the 'chute attached to the aircraft when he experienced control problems and became the first person to be 'saved' by a CAPS

Quoting from the Cirrus news release:-
"A Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) was deployed near Dallas, Texas, ..this marks the first time a certified aircraft has successfully landed under an airframe parachute canopy"

...the pilot was uninjured

Council looking for Flying School

 October 6 
Ballina Shire Council has advertised recently for "Expressions of Interest" for a flying School & Charter operator to be based at Ballina airport

A few years back Ballina airport, south of AF, was a hive of activity with the Lightwing ultralight aircraft factory producing a number of aircraft and the Lancair factory assembling kits for the home-builder market

With the decline in the private flying market these establishments are all but extinct and the Ballina Shire Council is now wanting to improve services and foster commercial opportunities at the airport
