To-day the US Senate voted, by an overwhelming 87-6 vote, to allow commercial airline pilots to carry guns in the cockpit

Sailplane Drops in on UK-Royals

 September 5 
The Queen and Prince Philip were entertained over the week end when a sailplane, taking part in a local flying competition, outlanded in the grounds of Balmoral Castle

"The gliders got into trouble when they lost hot air needed to enable their crafts to fly ...we (the police) are not sure if they even knew it was Balmoral"

Buckingham Palace stressed that the Queen's safety was not compromised in any way

Flap Bits Fall Off Kiwi B747

 September 2 
Twice in one week wing bits from departing B747's have fallen into Manukau Harbour and the Mangere car park near Auckland airport in Kiwi Land

In the latest incident a Los Angeles bound Air New Zealand heavy stirred emergency services at LAX when the wing flaps failed to fully extend on arrival after flying overnight

"..engineers on the ground in Los Angeles found damage to the plane's wing and tail"

Boeing Fuel Pump Warning

 September 1 
CASA has asked the heavy operators, Virgin Blue and Qantas, to inspect some of their aircraft following a worldwide safety warning about some Boeing jets

The USA's FAA concern is "about an unlikely series of events where a fuel pump failure could cause an explosion in an empty fuel tank"

"There have been no accidents or explosions from this fuel pump which has only been in service this year.."

Bad Weather Claims 2 in USA

 September 3 
Local media in OZ have reported on an unfortunate accident in Florida USA where a light aircraft has hit an unoccupied house killing two

"The visibility was well below minimum, you couldn't see at all ..they couldn't find the runway and for some reason they crashed"

The 2 on board were fatally injured when the single engine aircraft, one of more than 250,000 light aircraft in the US, impacted the house north of the "General Aviation Airport of the Year 1999/2000" Zephyrhills Municipal

Embraer Brasilia Down in Brazil

 September 1 
An Embraer Brasilia, belonging to Brazil's Rico Taxi Aéreo, has crashed while attempting to land at Rio Branco Airport in the north western state of Acre near Brazil's border with Peru/Bolivia

Of the 31 POB, 23 lost their lives including a member of Brazil's Congress

"..the aircraft crashed 1.5km from the end of the runway amid heavy rainfall and strong winds ..which could have caused the crash"

Southern OZ Kissing Cousins

 September 3 
High winds lashed Melbourne overnight causing a number of aircraft at the airport to move about

The ex Ansett regional heavies must have been feeling cold, lonely and neglected and looking to snuggle up with someone



The OZ Bureau of Meteorology said "...winds of 120kph - the highest in the state - were recorded"
