International Passenger Aircraft in World-Wide Terror Alert

 August 14 
The news media have reports the a shoulder mounted missile has been sought out by terrorist organizations to be used to attack low flying passenger jets as they approach or take-off from "suitable" airports around the world

"..the (American) FBI arrested a British citizen alleged to be an arms dealer and two others ..the alleged plot (was) to sell a surface-to-air missile to Islamic militants"

Intelligence reports have 29 civilian airlines attacked by shoulder-launched weapons

"The weapons used are cheap portable and abundant on the international black market"

Only one "Visitor" to Archerfield parked in the "Plane Park" - the other aircraft depicted have long grass growing underneath the machines suggesting that they have been parked there for some time possibly for sale

Two Down in Flames - WA & NSW

 August 12 
A Cessna C404 departing Jandakot airport in WA with 6 POB appears to have had an engine failure at lift-off

Witness report the aircraft turning back to the airport to land but struggling to fly at tree-top height the aircraft eventually hit trees and burst into flames

"Everyone was expecting it to lift and it hit and then a big ball of flames ..one person was killed"



Last Saturday a light aircraft crashed and burst into flames at Singleton Airport in the Hunter Valley - reports have the 2 POB escaping with minor injuries

OZ Spy Plane Deployment

 August 9 
A small pilot-less OZ designed robotic aircraft is to be deployed by the OZ military for surveillance in the Solomon's

The aircraft is launched by mounting it atop a motor vehicle and driving down the runway until flying speed is obtained

"the aircraft will be predominantly providing daytime video and still imagery that can be sent back to the ground control station and provided to military and police"

The Aerosonde machine "..can fly for greater than 30 hours ..air speeds up to 90kph ..up to about 20,000'"

Pilot Responses - Heavy and Light

 August 12 
A heavy passenger jet pilot fixed his machine by resetting a sensor in the aircraft's nose-wheel after the aircraft became stranded on Spain's Balearic island of Menorca with a load full of holiday makers

After waiting for some time to have the Boeing 757 fixed by "normal" means the weary British tourists were asked to vote on whether they wished to be flown home aboard the pilot repaired jet - all but 13 (about 6%) accepted and returned safely



A 6 seater light aircraft made an emergency landing in a paddock near Bowna in NSW - The aircraft initially reported an undercarriage problem but was forced to land sooner than expected - there were no injuries
