Private Pilot 'Bashing' by Union
|
December 1
The air controllers union - Civil Air - continue to harass politicians and news
media over their perceived safety issues with private pilots and the new airspace procedures
Most of the question time in Federal Parliament to-day was taken up explaining the safety aspects of the new system and replying to backbenchers questions taken
straight out of local newspapers
And the newspaper reports, the Courier-Mail in particular, were poorly
researched in the area of private VFR flight requirements and all articles researched by this News Desk appeared to be instigated by the air controllers union or Federation of Air Pilots

Lindbergh Family 'Skeletons'
|
December 1
Charles Lindbergh - made famous for his solo flight from New York to Paris in 1927 - had an 'interesting' time fathering children in his 'retirement' - born in 1902 he
departed the planet in 1974
It has been announced recently that Lindbergh had a defacto 'wife' in Germany during the 50's and 60's and fathered an additional 3 children over and above the 6 he
already had with his official wife Anne Morrow whom he married in 1929
Lindbergh had his first child - a boy Charles Agustus III - kidnapped and murdered in 1932

Civil Air President - Scaremonger
|
December 4
Ted Lang - president of the air traffic controllers union - claimed on TV that an incident which occurred near Melbourne yesterday where one aircraft out of three involved - had
the TCAS go off was as a result of the new NAS system and not the fault of the air traffic controller's instructions
The Civil Air president "has previously claimed there were near misses in Canberra and Tamworth ...on both occasions he was utterly incorrect and he's yet to apologise
for his blatant scaremongering"

Courier-Mail 'Letters to Editor'
|
December 6
It rained Saturday no flying VFR - so the News Desk thought it appropriate to respond to an article in The Courier-Mail. Excerpts:-
We - as private pilots - are not “inexperienced” as suggested in one of your editorials as we have had to deal with a rather complex and ever-changing airspace requirements
over the years and if we didn't get it right then (as now) we lost our flying licence
This new system now spreads the load and requires all other traffic to remain clear of VFR traffic as well as their own IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) traffic - in other words
the well paid commercial (professional) pilot will now have to work as hard as the non-paid private pilot and keep a look out in fine weather
