Space Shuttle Columbia and Crew of 7 Lost During Re-entry

 February 2
Shuttle Columbia broke apart entering earth's atmosphere Sunday morning OZ time with the loss of all 7 crew

Initial reports indicate a port wing failure (by overheating) possibly as a result of heat-shield thermal tile damage that occurred during launch 2 weeks earlier when some main fuel tank (frozen?) insulation fell off

Columbia was on its 28th space mission and had just started to enter earth's atmosphere

It was America's 113th space shuttle flight and 17 years since Challenger exploded during launch 60 seconds after lift-off on January 28, 1986

"In 42 years of human space travel, it was America's first loss of life during re-entry"
