Tandem Parachute Emergency

 March 2 
At Caboolture a jump pilot had to cut free two persons strapped in a tandem parachute after a harness strap snagged on the C182's entry step

The aircraft and parachutists landed safely


At Dalby on the Darling Downs a crop-duster aircraft hit a dead tree impacted the ground and burst into flames

The pilot managed to walk away, but received severe burns exiting the aircraft

Boeing 737 Down in Algiers

 March 7 
In Algiers an Air Algerie Boeing 737 with 97 passengers and 6 crew members crashed shortly after take-off; one person survived the accident

The crash occurred at Tamanrasset, in the Hoggar Mountains, which is a stop off for tourists on their way to ancient archaeological sites and prehistoric art works in the Sahara Desert

State-run Air Algerie was set up in 1953 and this was its first crash; "There was a mechanical problem on take-off"

Administrators of a million dollar aviation and agricultural business based at Moree, south west of Archerfield, have the company up for sale

The $12.5M p.a. turnover Gwydir Air Charter Pty. Ltd., has been operating for almost 30 years and administrators are now asking for expressions of interest for purchase

Another charter operator has gone "belly-up" in FNQ with all their aircraft up for sale

The receivers of the Mareeba based Robertson Aeroplane Company Pty. Ltd., have 2 NB Islanders, 2 Aero-Commanders and one Piper Aztec in need of new owners

Indonesian Choppa falls into Pool

 March 4 
Click to EnlargeIn Indonesia, a helicopter trying to land on the rooftop helipad of the Sahid Jaya hotel in Jakarta finished up falling from the roof of the 20 story building into the (empty) hotel swimming pool

The Indonesian pilot and his 2 passengers did not survive the impact

Strong winds have been blamed for the accident
