Formation Flying after 55 Years

Mat intends to fly his (new) Boomerang from Toowoomba to Archerfield on Saturday March 29, weather permitting

Gyrocopter Holiday Tragedy

Click to EnlargeThe owner-builder and pilot of a gyrocopter was killed instantly when his machine impacted the ground at Emu Park airstrip about 30km east of Rockhampton on Wednesday

Indications from witnesses suggest an engine failure on very short approach to the airstrip

The "mature age pilot" was on an extended flying holiday when the incident occurred

Hero CASA Pilot Lost in Bell 47

The other pilot on board, Mike Williams also a CASA employee, escaped with minor injuries; a landing skid apparently caught under a nearby support dolly during lift-off

Peter, awarded a bravery medal for a courageous rescue in 1997, was a flying operations inspector with CASA

C172 Accident in Tassie Claims 4

 March 15 
A charter pilot and 3 others on board a single-engine Cessna 172 all died when it crashed shortly after take-off on remote Trefoil Island off the north-western tip of Tasmania

The only witness and resident on the small island reported seeing the aircraft go into a steep dive shortly after take-off

The pilot and apparent owner of the C172 is reported as a person never took any risks

"He obviously loved his aeroplane - it was always serviced and immaculate"
