 Archerfield Airport Owner Invests BIG DOLLARS in New Hangar
 State Government Supported QLD Rescue to get New Home

New Hangar for QLD Rescue

 May 29 
Under construction at Archerfield and adjacent to R10L is a large hangar to house the QLD search and rescue helicopter(s) and associated equipment

The Bell 412 helicopter of the Brisbane Air Unit of Queensland Rescue is currently housed in a privately owned hangar on the southern side of the airfield which will be in need of a new tenant shortly

Funding for construction of this new hangar has been arranged by the airport owner and operator Archerfield Airport Corporation

NATO Yak-42 Down in Turkey

 May 27 
Media reports have 74 mainly military personnel lost when a Russian built Yak-42 impacted a hillside on it's 3rd approach to Trabzon airport Turkey in thick fog

The Yak military transport operated by NATO's Maintenance and Supply Agency had members of a Spanish peacekeeping force on board who were returning home from Afghanistan

Grounded Heavy Departs Airport

 May 29 
A Boeing 727 passenger jet - grounded at an Angola airport for about a year - has made an illegal departure

Media reports have witnesses stating that someone entered the aircraft started the engines and took-off - all without a departure or take-off clearance

OZ Airspace Controllers Proposal

 May 26 
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has opposed Airservices Australia's proposal to increase charges for terminal services at major airports

The competition watchdog considers that any increase in charges for airlines is unwarranted at this point in time due to the downturn in passenger numbers from SARS and world wide terror threats

En-route air navigation charges - which also covers light as well as heavy aircraft - was not included in the proposal
