Private Flying in Light Aircraft the Safest Method of Travel
It's So Safe that Job Loses are Now a Real Possibility

July 8
With recent increases in light aircraft safety comes the slow realisation within the industry that those involved in support of light aircraft eg., repair workshops, aircraft spare parts and insurance loss adjustors are all now "feeling the pinch" over the lack of a good "crash"

Back in the heyday for light aircraft flying in OZ - 60's through to the early 80's - repair workshops on Archerfield were kept busy with accident repairs, storm damaged aircraft and general maintenance - the aviation section associated with "crash" repair work has now virtually disappeared compared to what was happening on the airfield up to a few years ago

Even in recent times accidents have occurred on or near the field - click HERE for a nose wheel collapse on landing at the airfield in February 2003 and again in 1999 - and click HERE for an "off-field landing" by a local 2002

With the downturn in private flying over the past 20+ years something had to change and it looks as if some workshops and associated support industries will be the ones struggling to survive in the future

Meanwhile the winner(s) are the aviation insurance companies/underwriters - the News Desk is lead to believe that the underwriters recently made their first ever profit !
