Heavy Landing Wrecks Prop-Jet

May 10 
An American Eagle aircraft - a regional airline affiliate of American Airlines - landing at the Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan Puerto Rico had the port undercarriage leg collapse causing substantial damage to the prop-jet

"The ATR-72 carrying 22 passengers and 4 crew members was on a flight from the west coast city of Mayaguez ..One of the tyres blew out after the plane touched down and the aircraft lost its balance and tipped with one of its wings striking the runway"

Media reports have 11 persons in the 70 seat passenger aircraft injured including the pilot - images indicate an extremely HEAVY landing

Ag-Cat Stolen in SW QLD

May 13 
A Grumman Ag-Cat bi-plane "out-of-everything" that had been reported in media as stolen from a grazing property in south west Queensland - ended up 400 klms away near Taroom in central QLD

The property - Davirton Station near Dirranbandi - has a 6 seat Piper PA-32/300 for station use with the "stolen" Ag-Cat normally stored in a shed awaiting restoration




The aircraft - a single seat bi-plane - were popular in the 60/70's for crop spraying and had the reputation of been "fatality-free" during that period - the News Desk recalls one Ag-Cat hitting a radio tower in Toowoomba (in a fog) with the pilot emerging unscathed after "riding" the collapsing tower the ground

PA-32R Aborts Take-Off at Winton

May 11 
A single-engine 6-seat Piper Saratoga departing from Winton in central QLD is reported in the media as veering off the runway before becoming airborne and "crashing" (running) into the boundary fence


"The occupants suffered only bruising and shock"



Winton is a popular refuelling stop for light aircraft adventure flights traversing the west with the town recognized as the gestation place for QANTAS and nearby is the Combo Waterhole - part of the Diamantina River on Dagworth Station - the birthplace of the unofficial OZ national anthem "Waltzing Matilda"
