Dick Smith admits defeat over changes he wanted under NAS for VFR flight procedures (based on
the USA model) - Dick's NAS version was not accepted by Airservices who only increased controlled airspace (without
radar control) instead - leaving Dick no alternative but to apologise to Pilots who were only seeking compatibility
with the USA and European airspace standards

AOPA has reported that the Federal Government is "moving to strip Airspace Australia of its
powers to regulate or change airspace so that it can proceed with National Airspace System reforms, despite
Airservices planned rollback of NAS 2b on November 25"
Back in May 2002 the Transport Minister mooted the idea - the News Desk is unaware of
any "Legislation to establish a separate Airspace Directorate" at 'press time' 2½ years later
