State Emergency Service Fire-fighters were called in from Cairns and Townsville to-day to relieve local crews who had been fighting bush fires non-stop for more than a week and the "big-guns" of crop-dusters were placed "On Standby" as tempetures soared

A single-seat gyrocopter was involved in a crash on a property near Thargomindah in outback QLD





Media reports have the pilot not surviving the accident

A couple in the South OZ outback survived scorching heat and lack of water after the ultralight they were travelling in crashed

"Things went wrong when they tried to land and get a closer look at some camels"

The nose wheel dug in the soft ground and it "turned turtle" - they then walked 20 km trying to get back to the Mungeranie Hotel on the Birdsville Track - their departure point - but dehydration was setting in so they "sat under a tree and switched on their emergency beacon"
