The Queensland Government has honoured the former Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen by a State
Funeral held in Sir Joh's home town of Kingaroy
Sir Joh was instrumental in using and supporting light aircraft for use in Government and private
operations during his time in the top job running the State - the longest for any QLD Premier

Joh also supported a number of Air Races in the State during his

In the mid '80's Joh offered financial and Government support for the
Hinkler Bicentennial Air Race that was held in 1988 and raised over $120,000
for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

A Kiwi Airworks operated Fairchild Metro 111 freighter loaded with courier cargo and enroute from
Auckland to Blenheim crashed under suspicious circumstances around 2215hrs local about 5km east of Stratford

Indications from TV images suggest the twin turbo-prop may have been carrying out an emergency
descent and trying to land - the undercarriage was down and appears to be in the locked position
