 RPT Metroliner Impacts Hill on Approach to Iron Range in FNQ
 All 15 Passengers and Crew on the Aero-Tropics Prop-Jet Killed

A Cairns based scheduled passenger service prop-jet aircraft with 15 POB impacted a 1500' hill when on descent to the Iron Range airport in Far North QLD claiming the lives of all on board
 
The Aero-Tropics Air Services Fairchild Metro 111 - similar to the aircraft that crashed in New Zealand three days ago - was returning from Bamaga on the tip of Cape York to the Lockhart River community when it crashed approaching the remote airport


The burnt-out wreckage of the Metroliner was found by the Rescue Service helicopter in dense forest 10km north-west of Lockhart River's Iron Range airport
 
"Witnesses said the weather at the time of the crash was bad with low clouds and some heavy rain"
