Recent Controlled Flight into Terrain Accidents Claim 24 Lives
Controller's Console Alarms Activated - ADVISORY'S NOT ISSUED

November 24
Dick Smith went on national TV to explain his "UNSAFE SKIES" report wherein he made note that in a 13 month period here in OZ twenty four lives were lost in commercial aviation accidents - that many fatal's in private aircraft operations in the past would have had the authorities calling out for increased regulation of private pilots

The main thrust of his report was to explain to the general public that there is a lot of uncontrolled airspace below 8,500' used by airline aircraft even though radar based control is available but not used

Dick would like to see greater use of current radar facilities with the associated safety benefits made available to all aircraft operating in OZ airspace
