The President of the OZ Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association Ron Bertram was the pilot of a home-built Lancair
undergoing "flight testing" for the aircraft's owner at Bankstown airport when the aircraft landed heavily after an apparent engine failure
and slid into a twin-engine aircraft parked near a taxiway demolishing the twin's nose wheel

Media reports suggest there may have been an engine failure shortly after take-off at around 1440hrs
"It was a classic stall ...he did a steep right-hand turn from a height of about 380m before hitting the ground upside
down"
Ron held a commercial pilot's licence and flight instructor rating along with ultra-light and light aircraft maintenance engineer (LAME) tickets
