Canadian BD-5J Microjet pilot Scott Manning lost his life practising for a scheduled air-show performance
to be held at Ottawa over the coming week-end
Ontario law enforcement officer Manning was recognised as the tallest BD-5 pilot in the world at 6' 3" (1.95m) AND
able to fit into the smallest manned jet aircraft in the world (after minor mods) - the BD-5 is only 12 foot
(3.66m) long and has a 17 foot (5.18m) wingspan

The 225lb.st engine of the BD-5J is a French designed Microturbo TRS-18-046 propelling the single-seat micro
machine up to 260 kts
Scott invested around 6,000 hours building the BD-5J (designed
by Jim Bede back in the early '70's) in the very late '80's and all of the '90's - he lost his life doing something he always wanted to do well aware of the
high risk element attached to his chosen sport
