 Westpac Rotary-Wing Wrecked Responding to Emergency Call

The NSW Westpac Rescue Helicopter responding to an emergency motor vehicle accident was itself involved in an emergency when it had to land in a paddock due to an apparent engine malfunction not far from the scene of the car accident in north-west NSW

All five persons on board were able to walk away uninjured from the downed chopper


"It was on its way to a motor accident near Warialda, and has had some type of engine failure ...and has had a heavy landing"...
The medical officers and doctor on board the stricken machine were taken to the motor vehicle accident site by police - the two crew members were transported back to Tamworth

QANTAS B747 Jumbo in Emergency Landing at Sydney after Engine Failure

February 3  2007
A Qantas Boeing 747 with 274 passengers and crew on board was forced to return and land back at Sydney's Mascot airport due to an engine failure that occurred shortly after take-off


Qantas Logo The aircraft landed around 80 minutes later after having to dump fuel over the sea to enable it to land back at Mascot and be within its landing weight limits

Light-Twin Lost in Emergency Landing at Coolangatta after Engine Failure

February 4  2007
A twin-engine Piper Comanche aircraft has crashed into the ocean around 100 metres off Casuarina beach near Kingscliff in northern NSW claiming the life of the pilot - the only person on board



The 35-year-old PA-30 Piper Twin reported an engine failure and was attempting an emergency landing back at Coolangatta when an engine failure-induced loss of control occurred

Cirrus in Emergency Landing West of Sydney - Pilot and Passenger Injured

February 5  2007
A 4-seat single-engine Cirrus SR-22 aircraft was destroyed attempting an emergency landing adjacent to the M7 motorway west of Sydney

The pilot and passenger on board were both seriously injured in the accident and transported to the Westmead and Liverpool Hospitals

All Cirrus aircraft feature a ballistic parachute system designed to be used by the pilot in any emergency situation

News media images indicate this life-saving device was not activated with sufficient height to deploy
