 Operational Status at Williamtown Tower Challenged by Dick Smith 


Dick Smith has been successful in overturning CASA's requirement not to have air traffic controllers on duty at the Williamtown RAAF base during the Department of Defence period of operational standby between to-day and January 10 - 4 details mouseover & click

Dick criticised the Safety Authority for not organising replacement air traffic controllers and was ready to immediately take his concerns to the Federal Court of Australia

 Student Pilot Solo Landing Practice at Bankstown Damages XL-2 


The 2-seat Liberty XL-2 pilot-trainer operated by the Bankstown based Sydney Flight Training Centre bounced on landing on the southern runway around 1020hrs yesterday and ended up on the centre runway

The 'glass constructed machine sustained significant damage - the male pilot was able to exit unaided and was later treated for leg injuries and shock

 Dad's Aussie Air Force Completes Rescue of Flying War Memorial 


It's been a long 24 days of flying for 77-year-old ferry pilot Jim Hazelton who is on the final leg of the journey from Portugal to Lake Macquarie in OZ and Jim has admitted in media of feeling a little weary of the daily flying ritual - it's been his admiration for this wartime amphibious flying boat relic that has kept him going

Home base is to be Rathmines - a heritage-listed WW2 x-military base on Lake Macquarie

After being "put through the ringer" by customs and quarantine officials on arrival in Darwin the memorial charity group responsible for the importation of the PBY-5A was asked to pay an additional $15,000 in taxes - GST of course

"It's another expense we hadn't allowed for and we haven't got" - The "Black Cat" carried a crew of 6 in engineers and pilots
