Mid-Air Collision of Helicopter & Cessna C152 Claims 3 Pilots in Kiwi Land

FEBRUARY 17  2008
A student pilot on board a C152 and a student undergoing a flying test with an instructor in a helicopter collided mid-air about 200 metres from the runway at Paraparaumu Airport north of Wellington

The Paraparaumu Airport's air traffic control service had been discontinued in 1997 leaving it 'uncontrolled'

The collision resulted in two crash scenes - the helicopter falling through the roof of a timber yard building while the Cessna struck the roof of a house and ended up upside-down on the road of a cul-de-sac

The 30yo pilot in command of the helicopter was a highly qualified flight instructor and examiner of airmen
