Alien Avian Downs US Passenger Jet - Lands NY's Hudson River

A US Airbus A320 passenger jet with 155 persons on board made a successful ditching into the Hudson River after both engines failed shortly after take-off from New York's La Guardia Airport on January 15

The Airbus's two only engines ingested a few Canadian Geese that were flying nearby in formation on their annual migration and forced US Airways Flight 1549 to 'land' in the Hudson

All 150 passengers and 5 crew were evacuated from the freezing water by ferry boats and emergency services water-borne vehicles

Passengers were asked to stand on the wing during evacuation and await rescue as the fuselage slowly sank into the freezing waters

The 57 year-old pilot - Chesley Sullenberger - obtained his pilot's license at age 14 - trained in gliders and was an Air Force pilot for a number of years before taking up airline flying

The luckless cooked geese just happened to be at the wrong-place at the wrong-time - with the aircraft it was the right-pilot for the right-time
