WILD WEATHER CREATES HAVOC ACROSS AUSTRALIA

The west and eastern areas of the OZ continent have experienced extreme weather conditions over the past few days creating havoc across the country

In west OZ a Cessna C150 was flipped over after a storm passed over Jandakot airport and on the east coast severe weather conditions including strong winds and flooding rain have subdued most light aircraft activity

OZ AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE - ISSUE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

CASA have advised aircraft owners that there will be a regulatory change in the way mandatory Airworthiness Directives - AD's - are to be handled after October 1 2009

Aircraft on the Australian Civil Aircraft Register that have been issued with a Certificate of Registration prior to 1 October 2009 - the operator must comply with applicable Australian AD's and only the State of Design AD's issued after 1 October 2009

It's another change that the OZe light aircraft owner has to cope with to enable his/her favourite flying machine to remain airworthy

• All aircraft are required to comply with ADs issued by the National Airworthiness Authority (NAA) of the State of Design
• It will be the responsibility of the Registered Operator (RO) to monitor all ADs (Australian and State of Design ADs) applicable to their aircraft and aeronautical products
• CASA will no longer produce an Australian AD that mirrors a State of Design AD
• CASA will still issue unique Australian ADs to address an unsafe condition in an aircraft or aeronautical product
• Except for emergency ADs - CASA will no longer mail out ADs to the ROs
