MICROLIGHT PILOT LOST DEPARTING ENGLAND FOR AUSTRALIA

UK fund raising pilot tree-surgeon Martin Bromage has lost his life on his trip from London to Sydney after failing to negotiate the crossing of the English Channel due to fog over the sea - the weight-shift microlight had numerous cameras and GPS tracking devices on board - the last GPS fix was in the channel approaching France

Bad weather hampered rescue efforts and his body was found on Monday evening 20 miles from Boulogne around 24 hours after he departed from Gloucestershire Airport

LANDING MISHAP IN THE NT - POLICE PRAISE PILOT

The pilot of a "five-seater Cessna" - most likely a C210 retractable - was forced to carry out an emergency landing at Ngukurr around 320 kilometres south-east of Katherine after what appears to be a nose-wheel "not down and locked" fault - there were no injuries

The NT police advise the pilot sent out a distress call Wednesday afternoon advising that the landing gear was not working properly - the emergency landing was successful with damage sustained to the front under-carriage door and propeller
