TWO LIVES LOST IN CESSNA 210 TURBO ACCIDENT AFTER ROMA TAKE-OFF

QLD police have advised that a Cessna C210 has crashed in unknown circumstances shortly after take-off at Roma Airport this morning

The ATSB image of the crash site suggests the aircraft may have had an engine failure or broke up in flight - the 6-seater ended up in a paddock only 2-kilometres north-west of the Roma airport

Owned by what appears to be a grazing company the turbocharged 210 was a recent import into OZ from the USA (2011)

Popular for it's high-speed cruising ability this 1984 model required particular care in air-speed management and control - known to shed a wing in turbulence if in the caution speed range and with abrupt application of aileron(s)

LIGHT AIRCRAFT FIXED WING - ROTARY WING - NOW FIXED WING TILT-ROTOR

Has to be called outstanding progress for light aircraft development since the Wright's first fully controlled flight of 110 years ago

No doubt spurred on by numerous electric powered flying model aircraft of similar configuration AgustaWestland technicians have designed and remotely test flown an electric powered twin-engine tilt-rotor aircraft that allows the machine to land and take-off vertically and to fly conventionally

Dubbed "Project Zero" by AgustaWestland the all-electric powered tilt-rotor technology demonstrator was officially unveiled in early March 2013 - it had been under development since June 2011 and has carried out a number of remotely controlled tethered and untethered test flights

"When parked on the ground those rotors can be tilted to “windmill” in the oncoming wind charging the batteries as they do so"
