A "comedy of misfortunes" has plagued the attempted recovery by the owner of the Searey amphibian that he had landed in Lake Eyre 3-weeks ago "...The top of the water had a beautiful crystallised surface, which was about 10 millimetres thick. Underneath that was this clay; wet, sticky mud, which trapped the plane"
|
During the attempted recovery the ultralight was airlifted from the original crash site and a short time later it became unstable and the helicopter pilot had no choice but to jettison the load - "the aircraft ...that got bogged in Lake Eyre in South Australia will remain as an outback relic after a rescue attempt went spectacularly wrong"
